EFK Goals and Strategies

Goal 1:  Strengthen the organizational structure of the Engineers’ Foundation of Kansas

 

 

1.1

Amend the Bylaws in order that a Trustee, other than the KSPE President, can be elected President of the Foundation DONE

 

 

1.2

Expand the responsibilities of the Foundation to include all fundraising activities of the Foundation

 

 

1 .3

Establish a standing committee to make the annual selection of recipients of scholarships and fellowships granted by the Foundation

 

 

1.4

Review the investment policy for the Foundation and embark on proactive investment strategies to seek the maximum return on the investments with an appropriate risk

 

 

Goal 2:  Increase awareness of the Engineers’ Foundation of Kansas

 

 

2.1

Develop a concise, comprehensive message that describes the Foundation its role, and its activities

 

 

2.2

Develop an easily identifiable logo, consistent with KSPE branding, to be used in conjunction with this message

 

 

2.3

Utilize established KSPE communication conduits for disseminating this message (e.g., newsletters, press releases, meetings and conventions, etc.)

 

 

2.4

Create a Web page that describes the purpose, history, and activities of the Foundation

 

 

2.5

Create a link to the Foundation Web page from the KSPE site DONE

 

 

2.6

Develop promotional materials, activities, and collateral pieces that strengthen efforts to deliver this message (e.g. brochures, articles, advertisements, and letterhead for solicitation letters, etc.) and the means for increasing recognition for donors (e.g., plaques, special events, lapel pins, ribbons, etc.)

 

 

2.7

Develop a communication link and working relationship between the Foundation and the chapter organizations. Utilize established KSPE communication vehicles to impart pertinent information

 

 

Goal 3:  Increase financial support for the programs undertaken by the Engineers’ Foundation of Kansas

 

 

3.1

Include the opportunity for individual engineers to contribute to the Foundation on the KSPE annual dues statement

 

 

3.2

Establish new giving opportunities such as charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, donations of stock and real estate, gift annuities, pooled income funds, etc.

 

 

3.3

Develop and promote a planned giving program

 

 

3.4

Solicit contributions from individuals, industries and businesses

 

 

Goal 4:  Increase interest in and awareness for the field of engineering both as a college major and a profession

 

 

4.1

Develop and support pre-collegiate, interactive, educational programs, such as MATHCOUNTS, that will demonstrate the fun and exciting responsibilities of an engineer and make students aware of the requirements necessary to become an engineer

 

 

4.2

Identify both practicing and retired engineers interested in volunteering and match them with local elementary, middle, and high schools to serve as both mentors and tutors to students

 

 

4.3                     

Encourage KSPE member participation in "career day" and "job fair" activities

 

 

Goal 5:  Deve1op the engineering capabilities of individuals through education

 

 

5.1

Provide scholarships at the undergraduate level for outstanding students who plan to enroll in and continue the study of engineering

 

 

5.2

Provide scholarships at the undergraduate level for outstanding students who are enrolled in and pursuing the study of engineering

 

 

5.3                     

Provide fellowships to further develop the capabilities of individuals pursing graduate study in the field of engineering                                                                     

 

 

Goal 6:  Encourage individuals to pursue the profession of teaching engineering

 

 

6.1

Provide graduate fellowships to individuals desiring to become engineering educators at colleges and universities

 

 

6.2

Enhance the image of engineering educators through public relations activities and the recognition of outstanding teaching accomplishments          

 

 

Goal 7:   Help pre-college educators teach young people about engineering

 

 

7.1       

Provide support for math, science, technology, and diversity initiatives for

 

students

 

 

7.2

Produce, and/or identify, and make available for use, educational materials in the fields of engineering

 

 

7.3                     

Develop teaching resources and educational material relating to various aspects of the subject of engineering to include lesson plans, suggested experiments, puzzles for interactive educational activities 

           

 

Goal 8:  Improve and further develop the capabilities of individual professional engineers through continuing education

 

 

8.1

Sponsor educational seminars, conferences, forums and clinics on methods and procedures for improving the competence and professional standing of engineers

 

 

8.2

Support continuing education seminars and workshops cosponsored with KSPE and other appropriate organizations

 

 

8 3

Develop and implement a career-growth-mentoring program that includes bridging the gap between earning an engineering degree and becoming a licensed engineer

 

 

8.4

Make available for use books, reports, studies, memoranda, manuscripts, theses, research papers and any other material that has been prepared or identified as a result of programs supported by the Engineering Foundation of Kansas
